Kids Wait For Them and Trust Them

A charity event “Helping Hand to Children” was organized by the youth board of the Jewish Community Center “Emunah”. Around 100 people took part in it. Young leaders invited their old friends — musicians from the popular Belarusian piper band «Rog Izobiliya» what means cornucopia. All the event organizers put on house slippers to show the desire of each kid to have his or her own family and home where he or she will wear house slippers.

The organizers managed to raise some money that will be spent on children with special needs from the Ivenets orphanage. Some people could not come to the Minsk Jewish Campus that day, but they did help with some clothes, money and even sweets (jam, chocolate, candies, etc.).

The second trip to the Ivenets orphanage was held on December, 27 2009. Having raised some resources during the charity action and supported by the Ginsburg Family, «Youth Leadership» participants from the Jewish Community Center “Emunah” bought diapers, fruit and juices and went to Ivenets. They also brought toys and presents which were presented to the kids for the best paintings and decorations of rooms. One of the Hesed–Rakhamim volunteers brought donated dwarfs which she had been collecting all her life. «Let these cute dwarfs bring joy to the children and make their dreams come true », — she said.

Many children from the orphanage met the young leaders as though they were their best friends: the kids were chatting about their news, dragging madrichim to the rooms and hugging them. That day one of the orphans had a birthday. Aleksei (that is his name) admitted that he had never had such a birthday party. “I was raised in the air while seating on my chair, we sang and danced in a ring and even got some sweets!” No one wanted to say goodbye and it was hard to leave the place, but the action participants promised that they would definitely come back. And kids trust them.

…These children belong to no one, they have no parents… It is an idea that has changed many of us. Unfortunately the young leaders cannot solve all the problems on their own. We need to combine our efforts, the efforts of all the society, to change this situation. When we are together — we are strong!
